Some people think that letting children choose their everyday decisions will create a selfish generation, who only think about their own benefits. In contrast, opponents of this idea argue that children should decide their own matters, so they can gradually learn about taking responsibilities.
How much freedom parents should give to their offspring has long been a controversial topic. In my opinion, there should be a balance. One of the major reasons is any extreme measures could often lead to dire consequences.
If parents are overly indulgent, and allow their children to do whatever they want, their youngsters begin to believe that they are the center of the world, which means they no longer care about anything but their own desires. Over time, when these children grow up, and leave their homes, it would be extremely difficult to live in any society with that attitude. In this case, the parents harm their youngsters, and the community, which they live in, albeit unintentionally.
Ironically, parents, who do the exact opposite, risk harming their children in the exact opposite way. If parents control every aspect of their children's lives, it can cause a number of severe problems. A prime example is children tend to avoid their strict parents. Psychologists also have demonstrated that these offspring seem to lack confidence, and become emotionally fragile in their adulthood. From my own experience, as a child, I needed permission for everything, even the smallest items. Therefore, in university, I lacked confidence to do anything by myself. If I had grown up with more freedom, perhaps, my life would have been very different.
To conclude, I strongly believe that children should be allowed certain freedoms. However, there must obviously be a limitations on this liberty.
